This year was much more of a thrilling wedding season for us Indians. We got it all, from the most unusual and inspirational weddings to the most celebrated Ranbir-Alia wedding. Indian weddings are known for their elaborate rituals, vibrant attire, and grand celebrations. Indian weddings are celebrated in the best way possible without compromising on any of their traditions and enjoying it with their families and loved ones. There still are more rumours about the most expensive wedding to take place this year as well.

It was from the wedding of #Vickat, Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif, one of the most celebrated and admired actors in the industry, at the end of last year, gave a huge surprise to the entire nation and fans with their secret and much-secured wedding that took place at Royal Senses Fort Barwara in Rajasthan. Everyone simply loved the idea of a minimalistic, ‘the no make-up look’ of Katrina Kaif in the wedding and also the Bollywood blues in the wedding, giving us all the perfect ‘aww’ moment.

Another wedding that blew fans’ minds was the Ranbir-Alia Wedding. It was the most talked about wedding in the year 2022. As the trend of expensive destination weddings was a part of celebrities’ weddings, we got to see an entirely different scenario for the Ranbir-Alia wedding. They chose their venue to be their sweet home, where only the dear ones were invited and the couple had a dreamy minimalistic, typical Bollywood-style wedding.

It was not just Bollywood making headlines for celebrated and surprise weddings, even Tollywood also came up to the list with Lady Superstar Nayanthara tying the knot with the leading filmmaker in the Tamil Industry, Vignesh Shivan. What caught the eyes and interest of the fans was her saree. The Lady Superstar adorned a beautiful red vermilion custom-made saree with a beautiful emerald choker set that contradicted the saree and gave it a much more royal look. Vignesh Shivan expressing love for his lady love all over his social media platforms, gave her fans so much more to fall in love with the wedding.

When everyone has a discussion over what kind of a wedding needs to be arranged, Farhan Akhtar, who is an all-rounder in the industry tied the knot with his four-year love, Shibani Dandekar, VJ in the most unconventional way. Regardless of the differences they share, they chose to tie knots by exchanging vows at his Sukun Farmhouse in Khandala on February 13th 2022. For the ceremony, Shibani chose to wear a red unconventional gown by JADE, with all the required detailing, infusing modern and western ideas in it. There were videos that had gone viral, from the insides of the wedding to various dance and music performances, which excited the fans.

The wedding of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas was also yet another high-profile wedding that had taken place in December 2018. The couple had chosen a blend of both Western and Indian traditions. They had a series of ceremonies in which, during the Christian wedding, Priyanka Chopra sported a white high-collar gown designed by Ralph Lauren and for her Hindu Wedding ceremony, she wore a red and golden Lehenga in the most ethnic way. Even though there still exists religious disparities amongst people, weddings like these have paved the way to make people realise that love conquers despite it all.

Back in 2017, when Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli decided to tie the knot, both of them being from two different yet the most celebrated industries in India, Bollywood and Cricket, it became the most looked-up wedding of the year. Even after so many years the couple and their wedding is a hot topic in town. From their cute chemistry to Anushka’s wedding attire to the venue decor and dreamy photos, they are still most searched on the internet during the wedding season. The wedding was entirely toned in pastel which gave it an elegance and was aesthetic to watch. The wedding venue was an 800-year-old villa in Tuscany, Italy, with the venue being embellished with pastel-coloured flowers and candles placed within glass lanterns, which became a forever dream for anyone to get married in.

India being the most diversified nation in the world, Indian weddings do not limit themselves to certain procedures. Being a vast country sharing different cultures, we can see colourful and eventful weddings each day in India. Through weddings, we not only see the union of two humans who love each other, but also the union of humanity. Even though the pre-wedding rituals such as the Mehendi, Haldi or Sangeeth are normally performed at Hindu weddings, we can find them being practised by everyone around the nation despite the differences, paving the light for a better nation.

The pre-wedding rituals include ceremonies such as the engagement, Mehendi, and Sangeet. The engagement ceremony, also known as the “Roka,” is a formal announcement of the couple’s intention to marry. The Mehendi ceremony involves the application of henna tattoos on the hands and feet of the bride and sometimes the groom. The Sangeet ceremony is a festive occasion where family and friends come together to sing, dance, and celebrate the upcoming wedding.

Indian weddings are an all-together celebration of humanity and love.
